It finds the trips itself
You do not create trips. Rewind reads the dates and places your camera roll already records, works out which days were a trip, and names them.
For iPhone
Every trip you have been on, on one map. Open one and watch the day play back across it.

The scan happens on your device. Nothing is uploaded unless you put it in a trip — and then only the things you put there.
Ask for an edit and Rewind cuts the trip's photos and clips together, set to music, ready to share.
Add the people who were there and their footage joins yours, without anyone airdropping anything.
Connect Strava or Apple Health and Rewind will offer the rides, runs and hikes you tracked during a trip, drawn along the route with your photos.
The places you have been, collected as you go, from the trips Rewind already found.
Rewind needs your camera roll, and that is the part the rest is built on. It reads the dates and locations already stored alongside your photos to work out where you went and when. It reads them on your phone. Nothing leaves the device unless you add it to a trip.
When you do add something to a trip, it is uploaded to private storage that only you and the people you invited to that trip can read. There is no advertising in Rewind, no analytics SDK, and no crash reporter — nothing is sold or shared with data brokers, because nothing is collected to sell.
The privacy policy sets out every piece of data that leaves your phone, where it goes, and how to get rid of it.
